DEVELOPMENT OF HAREWOOD
TELEGRAM SENT TO MR FRASER
A review of the present plans for developing Harewood aerodrome and an immediate decision to bring it to international standards are sought by the member of Parliament for Selwyn. Mr J. K. McAlpine, in a telegram he sent yesterday to the Prime Minister (Mr Fraser).
The telegram read: “The Minister of Civil Aviation is reported as saying that plans for development of Harewood aerodrome are being prepared. In view of conflicting statements by Ministers and officials in this important question I would be glad to know by return what stage of development is contemplated by the Government. In view of the exceedingly favourable report by the United Kingdom Civil Aviation mission and the rapidly growing needs of the southern part of the Dominion, I strongly urge a comprehensive review’ of Harewood aerodrome construction plans and an immediate decision to develop the aerodrome to international standards at the earliest”
