BRITISH BALANCE OF TRADE IMPROVES

LONDON, February 21. The Board of Trade las announced that Britain’s adverse balance of trade has fallen steadily since August and that record January figures have brought it to more than one-third below the monthly average of 1948. January exports were £159,200,000, which is £12.100.000 above the previous record established in November. Imports valued at £187.200,000 were also a record, being £1,600,00Q above the previous peak last July.
