FINAL EVENT OF SCIENCE CONGRESS At the invitation of the president of the Pacific Science Congress (Dr. R. A. Falla), delegates who had attended the sessions of congress during the last week, their wives, hosts, and hostesses and interested friends attended a conversazione at the Wentworth last evening. The guests were received by Dr. and Mrs Falla and Dr. Gilbert Archey and Mrs Archey (Auckland). They included the Mayor (Mr E. H. Andrews) and the Mayoress (Mrs F. Hardy Cookson). A musical programme, arranged byProfessor Vernon Griffiths, was provided by Gladys Vincent. Francis Bate and Vernon Griffiths, who played instrumental trios, Anita Ritchie, who sang two songs, and Gladys Vincent, who played a violin solo. As most of the overseas delegates will leave Christchurch to-day, they said good-bye to friends they had made during the week, and visitors and local residents shared the general regret that the congress, with its pleasant social diversions, had ended. Thanks of Visitors The leaders of the overseas delegations thanked those who had organised the congress and their hosts in [Auckland and Christchurch at the last plenary session of the congress yesterday afternoon?* Replies were made by the Minister in charge of the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research (Mr T. H. McCombs), Dr. Falla, Dr. Archey, and the chairman of the Christchurch organising committee (Dr. R. S. Allan).
