DEVELOPMENT OF HAREWOOD
ENGINEER PREPARING PLANS DESIGN TO BE SUBMITTED TO GOVERNMENT “The aerodromes engineer of the Ministry of Works is engaged in the preparation of tentative plans for the development of Harewocd. The design has yet to be submitted to the Government.” This reply was given this week by the Minister in charge of Air Department (Mr F. Jones) in reply to a question from “The Press” about the paving plans for Harewood. Mr Jones's announcement is the first since last November, when the Minister of Works (Mr R. Semple) told “The Press” that the Government had not yet made its decision on the Tymms mission recommendation that Harewood should be made an international airport. The work to be done this year, according to Mr Semple, would provide runways that could be lengthened and strengthened to comply with international standards. The cost was to be £120,000.
