The Netherlands Minister to New Zealand (Mr J. B. Pennink), accompanied by Mrs Pennink, will visit Christchurch on March 9 and 10.
Dr. N. L. Edson was yesterday appointed the first professor of biochemistry in the Otago Medical School. Dr. Edson has been associate professor of bio-chemistry since 1944, and is a Travis Research Fellow. He was a Beit Fellow, and holds a Ph.D. degree of Cambridge University.— (P.A.)
Superintendent J. Bruce Young began duty yesterday as superintendent of police in Christchurch. He succeeds Superintendent D. J. O’Neill, who has been transferred to Wellington to take charge of that district. Mr A. R. Frethey, formerly assistant manager of the Bank of New Zealand, London, who arrived in New Zealand recently- by the Dominfon Monarch, is relieving Mr L. Brink man, manager of the bank’s Christchurch branch, who is on leave. Mr P. B. Law. an executive «of Imperial Chemical Industries, arrived in Auckland from Sydney aboard the Monowai yesterday. He will advise New Zealand textile manufacturers on dyeing and production problems.— (P.A.)
