TOO LITTLE SPENT ON UNIVERSITIES
AUSTRALIA COMPARED WITH BRITAIN (Rec. 7 p.m.) BRISBANE, Feb. 21. A warning that Australia should spend more on her universities and research work was given by Dr. L. S. P. Davidson, professor of medicine at the University of Edinburgh and Honorary Physician to the King in Scotland. “Britain, with her back to the wall financially, is spending millions more on universities than before the war,” he said. “It seems strange that Australia, riding a wave of prosperity, is not doing the same as Britain, where the amount of money for research has increased fivefold. At every Australian university I have been told that they need more money to carry on the work.”
Professor Davidson is visiting Australia to discuss Britain’s food rationing problems.
