“COMPLETE FABRICATION”
“The message from the Parliamentary reporter of ‘The Press.’ purporting to show that the Prime Minister (Mr Fraser) and the Minister of Finance (Mr Nash) were overruled in caucus by ‘left wing’ members of the Parliamentary Labour Party is a complete fabrication,” said Mr T. H. McCombs, who is secretary to the Labour caucus, yesterday. “The Stabilisation Emergency Regulations referred to were agreed in principle between the Government
and interested parties and were set up in type before the caucus met. They were not discussed by the caucus. “While one is astonished that ‘The Press,’ which normally prides itself on its accuracy, should print such a fabrication,” added Mr McCombs, “one must expect that, as the election approaches, further attempts will be made to demonstrate differences, which do not exist, within the Parliamentary Labour Party.”
