Mr J. R. McKenzie, who left Christchurch with the ’ intention of attending the inter-Dominion Trotting Championships in Adelaide, became ill during the trip across the Tasman and he is now in St. Luke’s Hospital in Sydney. Mr McKenzie is reported to be making a good recovery. Sympathy with the relatives of Mr E. F. Stead and appreciation of Mr Stead’s public work were expressed by the City Council last evening. Mr Stead was a city councillor in 1920. The Rev. J. D. McArthur, minister at Trinity Methodist Church, Wellington, will retire in April. He was ordained in 1913, and has been at Trinity Church for seven years. He was deputy-chairman of the Wellington Methodist District last year, and had formerly been chairman of various 1 districts on nine occasions. For 12 years he was assistant-secretary of the annual conference of the Methodist Church. Among the centres in which he has served are Cambridge, Levin, Palmerston North, Timaru, and Blenheim.—(P.A.)
