IMPORT LICENSING SCHEDULE
“ SERIOUS REPERCUSSIONS ON TRADE” From Our Own Reporter TIMARU, February 21. The New Zealand Retailers’ Federation will undertake publicity campaign to show the women of New Zealand the “serious repercussions” from the 1949 import licensing schedule. This was decided at the federation’s annual conference this morning, when it was reported that, amongst other things, the importation of nylon hose was prohibited. While fully recognising the high standard of output of New Zealand factories, having due regard to available supplies and the present policy of the Price Control Division in fixing costs, the conference considers that the Dominion was "lagging” in fashion trends. “We are living under austerity conditions in many respects, at a time when our export trade is at record levels,” said one delegate. “Even if we cannot have all that the fashionconscious desire, surely we can at least have token imports over a wider range of goods.” he added.
