Brigadier C. E. Weir, Officer Commanding Southern Military District, and Mrs Weir will return to Christchurch this morning from Wellington, where they have been guests at Government House for the last few days. Mr F. R. Callaghan, secretary of the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research, who has been visiting Christchurch for the opening of the Pacific Science Congress in the city, returned to Wellington last evening. Mr E. J. Neilson, the Christchurch delegate, left by the steamer express last evening for Wellington to attend the annual conference of the United Nations Association.
Mr W. V. Dyer (Lower Hutt) has been re-electecLchairman of the Massey Agricultural College Board of Governors. and Mr L. J. Wild (Otaki) vicechairman. Mr Dyer and Professor V. J. Chapman (Auckland) have been appointed the board’s representatives on the council of the New Zealand School of Agriculture.—(P.A.)
Mr Lincoln Efford has been appointed secretary of the Canterbury District 'Council of the Workers' Educational Association. The former secretary, Mr G. Manning, has resigned to take up an appointment as tutororganiser in- adult education in the Christchurch metropolitan area. Dr. J. W. Ardagh, F.R.C.S., who has been in England for three years doing post-graduate surgery, returned to Christchurch yesterday. He is the son of the late Dr. P. A. Ardagh. The principal officers elected at the annual meeting of the Newspaper Proprietors' Association at New Plymouth last night were: president, Mr R. D. Horton; general committee, Messrs C. W. Earle. H. P. F. Blundell, W. R. Sinclair. E. V. Dumbleton, D. F. C. Saxton, E. G. Kerr and W. J. Woods (associate member, Mr J. H. Rhodes); advisory committee for general matters, Messrs C. W. Earle, H. P. F. Blundell, E. A. Blundell, H. N. Blundell. P. R. Scoble. and D. F. C. Saxton; advisory committee for advertising matters, members of the committee for general matters, with the addition of Messrs J.
