OFFICIAL FORECASTS "The Press” Special Service WELLINGTON. February 17. The weather forecast for Canterbury issued at 9 p.m. by the Meteorological Office, Wellington, and dealing with the 20 hours following the time of issue, is as follows: Situation: there is a shallow depression east of Canterbury, and an anticyclone extends across the South Tasman. Forecast to 5 p.m.: moderate south-west winds predominating; areas of morning fog and cloud, but weather otherwise fair and mild. WEST COAST The forecast for the West Coast of the South Island is:— Moderate south-west winds, weather cloudy, with occasional showers; temperatures moderate. CHRISTCHURCH WEATHER Yesterday in Christchurch was fine and gunny, with a light north-west wind. The maximum temperature was 77.8 degrees. At midnight there was a heavy fog in Christchurch. A very light northeast wind was blowing. The temperature was 59.4 degrees, and the barometer was almost steady at 29.350 inches (993.9 millibars). Rainfall for 24 hours ended 1 a.m.: nil.
