GOOD CONDUCT PAY
Sir,—l understand that men of the Royal Nev/ Zealand' Air Force are shortly to receive good conduct pay. Would the Minister of Defence kindly make a statement as to why this pay is not being made to the W.A.A.F.? —Yours, etc., JUSTICE. February 7, 1949. [When asked to comment on this letter, the Minister of Defence (Mr F. Jones) said: “The pay regulations for the Royal New Zealand Air Force provide that badges may be earned by members up to and including the rank of corporal after five ancf 10 years’ service. Each badge entitles the member to 6d a day until promotion beyond the rank of corporal. It is anticipated that employment in the services will normally be of shorter duration for women than for men. The pay structure for the women’s service has been related closely to comparable civil pay rates. In the case of the men’s service it must be borne in mind that many are being trained for employment in Air Force technical trades.”]
