CONFERENCE OPENS AT TIMARU TO-DAY From Our Own Reporter TIMARU, February 17. Trade groups of the New Zealand Retailers’ Federation held their annual meetings to-day at Timaru, where the twenty-eighth annual conference of the federation will open to-morow. More than 140 delegates from all over New Zealand are attending the conference, which will be opened to-mor-row afternoon by Mr J. T. Watts, M.P. for St. Albans. The conference will conclude on Tuesday. Delegates will be welcomed in the afternoon by the Deputy-Mayor of Timaru (Mr W. S. Richards) and by the president of the South Canterbury Retailers’ Association (Mr G. E. Davies). An address will be given in the evening by the High Commissioner for the United Kingdom, Sir Patrick Duff. An all-day trip to surrounding districts has been arranged for delegates and their wives for Saturday, and a ball will be held at the Caroline Bay Hall in the evening. The retiring president, Mr A. L. George, will give his address on Monday morning, when the annual report of the federation will' be presented. Officers will *be elected on Tuesday afternoon, and there will be a function to wind up the conference in the evening.
