BUTTER PRODUCTION AT KAIKOURA

OUTPUT LIKELY TO REACH * 500 TONS If the production at the Kaikoura co-operative Dairy Company’s factory is sustained at the present level until the end of March, which the manager (Mr A. C. Mitchell) says it has every indication of doing on current figures, an output of 500 tons for the 1948-49 season will be reached. Already the tctal increase for this season compared with last is a record of 38 tons.

The factory was, at present, putting out more than 90 boxes a day, compared with 74 to 78 boxes during the corresponding period of last season. Even if production at the factory was equal to that for the corresponding period of last year for the remainder of the 1948-49 season, said Mr Mitchell, the output would be 492 tons, which was calculated on an output of 454 tons for the 1947-48 season, together with the comparative increase of 38 tons for this season over last. As there was an average inciease of 12 boxes a day in the output this season compared with the corresponding period of the 1947-48 season, the prospects of reaching 500 tons for the first time in the history of the factory, were within range, added Mr Mitchell.
