♦ NATIONAL JUNIOR TITLES DOUBLE RECORD IN 220 YARDS FREESTYLE 4 .. NAPIER, February 17. An outstanding performance at the national junior swimming championships was that of a 15-year-old girl, W. Griffin (Auckland), in win--220 y arcJ s freestyle. She broke both the senior and junior national records. She is regarded as a strong Empire Games candidate. Winning easily in 2min 39 l-ssec, Miss Griffin lowered the senior record by 4-5 sec, and beat the junior record of 2min 41 «-ssec. which she herself established earlier m the day. In a special attempt on the boys’ 220 yards breaststroke record of 3min 6 2-5 sec, held by himself, T. Eagle (Auckland) was successful, covering the distance in 3min ssec. Eagle was disqualified in his heat A. M. Amos (Auckland) dominated the boys freestyle and backstroke classes, winning each of the three events decided.
