TRACK WORK AT ADDINGTON

TROTTING

DIRECT HEIR IN FORM Driven by his owner-trainer, F. Holmes, Direct Heir indicated that he had recovered from the congestion and palpitation which prevented him from showing his best form in the Wallaceville Handicap at the Wellington Trotting Club’s meeting on Saturday by the manner in which he beat Starshell and Remlap after giving them 48 yards start over a mile and a half at Addington yesterday morning. Direct Heir covered the distance in 3min 14sec, the last two furlongs taking Imin 2sec. The winner of three races at the Nelson Trotting Club’s recent meeting, Direct Heir should be prominent from the scratch mark in the Wigram Handicap at the Canterbury Park Trotting Club’s meeting on Saturday. Jackie Guy and Grattan Drive always appeared to be going easily when they paced a mile and a half in 3min 29 3-5 sec. the last half-mile taking Imin ssec. Harmonist gave a bold display of trotting when worked alone.

Promising Young Trotter G. B. Noble, who trains his team at Yaldhurst, was present with his promising two-year-old trotter. Highland Kilt, yvhich will attempt to lower Todd Lonzia’s mile record at the Canterbury Park meeting on Saturday; a filly by Springfield Globe from Parisienne, Commander Scott, and Fan Tan. Highland Kilt, which was restrained ip the early stages, covered a mile in 2min 29sec, the last four furlongs taking Imin Usee. A bold trotter. Highland Kilt created a good impression. He should have little difficulty in setting new figures on Saturday. Commander Scott and Fan Tan both looked well. They covered the last mile and a quarter of their trial in 2min 50sec. the last half-mile taking Imin ssec. Fan Tan, which gained a decisive win in the Nelson Trotting Cup in 4min 26 2-ssec on January 29, must be conceded a good chance from the 12 yards mark in the Harewood Handicap of two miles at the Canterbury Park Trotting Club’s meeting on Saturday. Commander Scott, which looks in splendid condition, is nicely placed on the scratch mark in the President’s Handicap at Addington this week. In L. O. Thomas’s Team

Tekau and Waroonga, which are both in L. O. Thomas’s team, pleased by the easy manner in which they paced a mile and a half in 3min 23sec, the last halfmile taking Imin 4sec. The winner of two races earlier in the season, Tekau may show up from the scratch mark in the Strowan Handicap at Addington this week. On recent form Mosquito must be conceded a chance from the 12 yards mark in the Yaldhurst Handicap at the Canterbury Park Trotting Club’s meeting this week. Fining Down Super Globe, which has lost a lot of his surplus condition, set the pace for Dan Martin, Suzerain, Velvet Brown, and Novacord, when covering two miles in 4min 45sec, the last half in Imin Bsec. If he is >on his best behaviour, Dan Martin may be placed in the money in the Aviation Handicap at Addington this week. * Bonny Brogue and Blue Print finished together at 'the end of a mile and a half in 3min 30sec, the last half-mile taking Imin 7sec. The Dillon Hall gelding, which is a half-brother to Turco, shows a lot of ability at this stage of his preparation. Fine Performance Highland Belle gave a pleasing performance when working with Doonholme to cover a mile and a quarter in 2min 42 2-ssec, the last four furlongs taking Imin 2 3-ssec. When she settles down to race solidly. Highland Belle should prove capable of winning her way to good company. Golden Amazon set the pace when working with Billy McElwyn over a mile and a half in 3min 31 2-ssec. Pre-Eminence covered the last four furlongs of his trial in Imin 6 l-ssec. In Form Wynleaf, a winner at the Marlborough Trotting Club’s meeting, and at the Nelson Trotting Club’s meeting, gave a good performance to finish close up in third place in the Waiwhetu Handicap at the Wellington Trotting Club’s meeting at Hutt Park on Saturday. An aged daughter of Swordsman and Roma Girl. Nydia has raced consistently this season to gain two wins and eight minor placings for Mr C. Laing, for whom she is trained at Templeton by C. R. Berkett.
