CRITICISMS OF R.A.F.

LORD TEDDER REPLIES (Rec. 8 p.m.) LONDON, December 15. The Chief of the Air Staff, Marshal of the Royal Air Force Lord Tedder, speaking at a London dinner, replied to attacks on the efficiency and morale of the Royal Air Force. “Last week we had an exercise which has been called a fiasco—flying in Atlantic storms. Our opponents were the Navy and Nature, and they won. When Nature has a temper she is vicious and remorseless, especially in the air. It was only thanks to Providence and the skill and determination of the air crews, and to the moral courage of the commanders who refused to commit the main force in such conditions, that we got through without serious losses. “I wonder if Berliners think that Royal Air Force morale and discipline is weak or that its skill is less than when the roar of British engines meant not more food but more bombs ifor Berlin?” asked Lord Tedder.
