AUSTRALIAN FOOD EXPORTS
“BRITAIN GETTING ENTIRE SURPLUS” (Rec. 9 p.m.) CANBERRA, Dec. 15. “Australia is now sending Britain its entire surplus production of meat, butter, and eggs. With wheat exports from Canada and Australia, Britain has been made independent of American supplies,” said a spokesman of the Australian Department of Commerce to-day. Britain could not obtain any more meat in the immediate future than she was already receiving, said the spokesman. Increased production was dependent'on the weather and on labour. There was a long-range plan for increasing beef production, particularly in the Northern Territory. Even if Britain were prepared to pay higher prices in competition with Continental countries, supplies would not be increased. All the Australian surplus was now going to Britain or to destinations directed by Britain.
Britain’s Weather. —While a gale swept the English Channel last night and* thunderstorms caused local flooding in parts of Britain, the temperature in London was 59 degrees, only three degrees below the highest December reading ever recorded.—London, December 15.
