BONER BEEF FOR EXPORT

SCHEDULE PRICES INCREASED

From Our Own Reporter

WELLINGTON, December 15. The export schedule prices for all boner beef will be increased by 2s Gd per 1001 b to 31s. This is in compensation for the loss sustained by producers through the elimination of the f.a.q. quality of cow beef, w’hich is no longer acceptable to the United Kingdom Ministry of Food, for emergency use as part of the meat ration. Cow beef, formerly graded f.a.q., will in future be included with boner quality, used for manufacturing purposes.

The chairman of the New Zealand Meat Producers’ Board (Mr G. H. Grigg), asked for his views, said that although this grade of cow beef had been established as part of the bulk purchase contract with the United Kingdom during the 1944-45 season, the United Kingdom Ministry of Fooa had from time to time expressed dissatisfaction with it, and during the recent negotiations had decided to cancel it. The adjustment now authorised was obtained by drawing upon the Meat Industry Stabilisation Account, and could be regarded as satisfactory.

The increases took effect retrospectively from the start of the new meat export season on Ocfeber 1.
