INDIA’S TIES WITH COMMONWEALTH

CONGRESS DESIRES “ FREE ASSOCIATION ” (Rec. 7 p.m.) . NEW DELHI. December 12. The working committee of the Indian National Congress Party passed a resolution declaring that the party would welcome India’s “free association” with the independent nations of the Commonwealth. The resolution added: “This will svmbolise India’s independence and give her the status among the nations of the world that is her rightful due. India desires to maintain all such links with other countries as do not come in the way of her freedom of action and independence.” The resolution urged that the French and Portuguese possessions in India be politically incorporated xn the Indian Union. “The Congress trusts that this will be brought about by peaceful methods and friendly cooperation,” it stated. The party expressed sympathy with “those who have suffered by the policy of racial discrimination of the Government of the Union of South Africa.”
