Impressive efforts over a. mile by Excellency and Flying Sovereign and a smart sprint over six furlongs by Citril were among the features of the gallops at Riccarton yesterday morning. Other horses which returned good times were Eulogize, Idle Jest, Kirkella, and Trident over a mile, and Renowned over seven furlongs. The fast work was carried. Out on the trial grass, which was in good order. Excellency, which is none the worse for her race under a big weight in th<e Stewards’ Handicap on Saturday, was accompanied over a mile by Magnaform. Excellency completed the distance easily, in Imin 43 l-ssec, running her last halfmile in 49 2-ssec. Magnaform was of little use to her over the final stages, and finished a long way back. Flying Sovereign, one of the early favourites for the New Zealand Oaks next Saturday, beat Sbrry by a length over a mile in - Imin 44 3-ssec, the last half in 52sec. Flying Sovereign did her work easily--throughout. Eulogize and Idle Jest were together at the end of a mile In Imin 42 3-s Sec, the first four' furlongs in 50sec. It was a good effort on the part of both horses. Trinidad, a candidate for the Pioneer Handicap on Saturday, ran over "five furlongs in Imin 6 2-ssec, the last- four in 53 l-ssec. Signal Officer covered five furlongs In Imin 7 2-ssec, the last four in 52sec. Lexia and Ned Kelly took Imin 31 2-ssec for seven furlongs, the last four in 53sec. Hush and Jaconet finished on. terms over a mile in Imin 44 4-ssec, the last half in 52 l-ssec. Both are engaged in the Oaks.. Citril’g Effort Citril, which did not fulfil her engagement in the Stewards’ Handicap, was going better than Red Pickle at the finish of six furlongs in Imin 14 4-ssec, the last four in 50sec. Kirkella ran a mile in imin 42 3-ssec, the last half in 51 3-ssec. She put a lot of dash into her work.

Palomino was six lengths clear of Blue Print and recorded Imin 29 3-ssec for seven furlongs, the last four in 53 2-ssec. Primitive and Romantic took Imin 30sec

for the same distance, the last four in Gildchase and Liebestraum moved away from the mile at a strong pace and ran the last four furlongs in 51 l-ssec. Jamell was going better than Rebel Night over six furlongs in Imin 17 2-ssec, the first four in 52 2-ssec. Nightblush was eight lengths ahead of Mercurius after covering a mile in Imin 45 l-ssec, the last half in 53 4-ssec. Dexter ran 52 2-ssec for four furlongs. Balkis and Assault were half a length clear of Rumba, with Curtana four lengths further back, after running over a mile in Imin 43 4-ssec, the last half in 51 2-ssec. Riverview and Sal’s Pal finished two lengths clear of Royal Tan over a mile’ in Imin 44 3-ssec, the last half in 50 2-ssec. Sal’s Pal and Riverview completed their gallop in easy fashion. The Stewards’ winner. Full Play, an early favourite for the Jockey Club Handicap. moved nicely over half a mile in 52 l-ssec. Golden Amber, an Oaks prospect, ran over seven furlongs in Imin 29sec, the last four in 50 4-ssec. Milly Mandy and Sir Abbot covered the same distance in Imin 30 3-ssec, the first three in 36 3-ssec. Omega had an advantage of three-quar-ters of a length over Colorado Maid at the end of seven Turlongs in Imin 30 4-ssec, the last four in 52sec. Valley Gold, Julius Caesar, and Brixton recorded 49 2-ssec for their gallop over half a mile. Talent dashed over three furlongs in 39 3-ssec, and Abbotsford covered that distance in 40 3-ssec. Renowned Shows Speed Renowned recorded Imin 28 3-ssec for seven furlongs, the last four in 52sec. Her time for the distance was the best uf the morning. General Argosy”ran the last half of his mile in 52 4-ssec. Frances, which did not appear on the first day. ran an easy Six furlongs in imin 19 2-ssec, the last half in 51 4-ssec. The" Bulandshar mare has a bright appearance. Destination and Lilli Marlene recorded one of the fastest half-miles of the morning. their time being 48 4-ssec. Bobby Dazzler beat Erinborough by two lengths, with Hatrack a similar distance away, and Big Top tailed off, ovftr seven furlongs in Imin 30sec. the last four furlongs in 51 2-ssec.
