ANNUAL FESTIVALS TO BE DISCONTINUED The following officers were elected yesterday at a meeting of the Christchurch Secondary Schools Music Festival Committee:—president, Mr T. W. West; vice-president. Mr A. E. Caddick: chairman, Mr V. C. Peters; secre-tary-treasurer, Mr A. M. Hatch; honorary auditor, Mr P. Halligan. The resignation of Mr A. G. Thompson. who has been chairman of the council since its inception in 1941, was received with very great regret. Mr Thompson is going to make nis .ho.me m Nelson. 'Mr Peters paid a tribute to the work of Mr Thompson who. he said, had given thousands of L.iildfen a love of music and had trained them correctly. He had done a very wonderful work for music in the city over a long period, and his standard had never altered. Mr Peters said.
The committee will not now meet as frequently as formerly, but it will meet at least once a year. The school festivals, are to -be allowed to. lapse because the number of those taking part has expanded so considerably that there is now no accommodation large enough for them. The committee, however, will be ready if any massed, musical work by secondary schools is required and it will also consider musical nroblems of interest to schools, particularly with reference to the centennial celebrations.
