SPANISH ENSEMBLE

DANCER, PIANIST, AND GUITARIST An ensemble with an international reputation—La Joselito, a famous Spanish dancer; Mercedes Bebia, pianist; and Juan Relampago, guitarist —will appear in Christchurch soon. Critics overseas are unanimous in praise of their interpretation of Spanish dances, and music. Of La Joselito, the critic Jose Atienza says: “Her arms, her hands, her whole body dances and is set to music in ravishing, bewildering movements. In her travels she has chosen the best Spanish Sceneries, the most prominent Spanish habits, the simplest and most stately costumes, and the best selection of Spanish music. As we have seen all this we can exclaim with de light ‘This is Spain’.” Mercedes Bebia won the first prize of the Conservatory for Piano in Spain and almost immediately undertook a successful concert tour of France; She presents the works of Spanish composers with distinction and has impressive technique. Juan Relampago shows marked virtuosity and has been acclaimed for his sparkling variations on the guitar. With La Joselito, the musicians give a performance full of life, grace, and colour.
