OBITUARY

MR W. A. POLSON

Mr William Alexander Polson died on Tuesday at the age of 73. A wellknown businessman, Mr Polson was born at Moeraki and educated at Waddington. He joined the firm of D. McMillan and Company in 1889 and took charge of the business in 1906.. He retired from the firm (now known as W. A Poison, Ltd.) because of illhealth in 1940. For 40 years he was a member of the Canterbury Lodge and a past master. He was a past warden of the District Grand Lodge of Canterbury, past vice-president of the Board of General Purposes and df the Board of Benevolence. He held the special appointment of P.A.G.D.C. from the United Grand Lodge of England. For a number of years he was a member of the executive of the Employers’ Association, a member of the Canterbury Chamber of Commerce, and a past president of the New Zealand Master Painters, Decorators, and Signwriters’ Association. Mr Polson was also interested in rowing and bowling, being a member of the Avon Rowing Club for 52 years and a life member. He was also a member and past president of the Christchurch Regatta Club. He was a foundation member of the Edgeware Bowling Club and a member of the Christchurch Bowling Club. Mr Polson is survived by Mrs Polson and one son, Mr L. A. Polson.
