PALANA STANDS BY FERNMOOR
—— HEAVY BROKEN CABLE HAULED IN
(P.A.) AUCKLAND. Sspl 24. After a long night’s work hauling in the heavy broken cable in rough seas, the P. and O. Line's motor-ship Palana is standing by the disabled motor-ship Fernmoor waiting for the weather to moderate before resumin'’ the 2200-mile tow to Auckland. Weather reports received in Auckland from the area • indicate strong southerly winds and a high pitch on the sea.
The following special wireless message was sent from the Palana to the “New Zealand Herald” at 5.30 p.m. by the master (Captain H. Spurr): “Towing hawser was in at noon today. All hands working all night until noon to-day. There were very heavy seas at the time, and it was dangerous work. - I now returning to th? Fernmoor and should be at her position about 9.30 p.m. I will stand-by until the weather moderates.”
