OBITUARY
MRS J. R. LOUGHNAN The death is announced of Mrs Lillian Stella Mary Loughnan, of Burrabogie, Scargill. widow of Dr. James Loughnan. formerly, a wellknown doctor in South Canterbury. Mrs Loughnan’s death was unexpected. She was in her usual good health until Thursday, when she left her home at Scargill and went by car to Waiau to visit her son-in-law and daughter, Mr and Mrs P. W. Jennings. She became suddenly ill, and died early yesterday morning. Mrs Loughnan was the sixth child and only daughter of Mr (late Sir) George Harper and Mrs Harper, of Christchurch. She was educated at the Convent of the Sacred Heart in Timaru. and after her marriage to Dr. Loughnan continued to liv-» in Timaru. Later, the family moved to Ffiirlie, where Mrs Loughnan made - many * friends in the town and surrounding district. Dr. Loughnan died several years ago, and Mrs Loughnan then moved to Scargill. North Canterbury. She is survived by three sons—Mr Patrick Loughnan, of Hastings, and. Messrs Peter and. Edmund Loughnan.. of Scargill—and two daughters—Mrs Jennings (Waiau) and Mrs Brown, wife of Lieutenant-Colonel H. C. Brown, U.S.A.F. Mrs Brown (formerly Miss Katrine Loughnan) had a fine record of service with the W.A.A.F. in New Zealand during the war. and afterwards in England. Her marriage took place at Brompton Oratory. London, earlier this year, and she is now living in the south of England. Mr R. P. earper (Tui. Hills.’ Woodbury) is Mrs jughnan’s only surviving brother. The funeral will leave the Waiau Catholic Church this afternoon for the Waikari cemetery.
