HOUSE GUTTED BY FIRE
An old brick house at 893 Ferry road was gutted by fire early yesterday morning. The Christchurch Central Fire Brigade received a call at 2.36 a.m., but the building was well ablaze. The house was used as a storeroom by the Pioneer Manufacturing Company. Slight damage was done to the building and contents, when a detached washhouse caught fire at 149 Milton street yesterday afternoon. The brigade was called at 5.39 o’clock, and extinguished the fire with a first-aid hose. The building is owned by Mr George Kenneth Cutting. A chimney fire at the residence of Mrs Edith Carr, 255 Gloucester street, was dealt with at 5.38 p.m.
