ENGINEERING INQUIRY
CHRISTCHURCH SITTINGS CONCLUDED
The Consultative Committee, set up recently by the Minister of Education (Mr T. H. McCombs) to hear evidence about the . training of professional engineers, concluded its sittings in Christchurch yesterday. The committee will sit again in Wellington on October 6.
When the committee resumed yesterday morning at Canterbury University College, Professors G. G. Calvert (dean of the faculty of engineering), N. M. MacElwee (professor of electrical engineering), and R. J. Rastrick (professor of mechanical engineering) continued giving evidence. Later in the morning the committee visited the Christchurch Technical College, where members were received by the principal (Dr. D. E. Hansen).' Evidence was given by Mr R. A. Keir, head of the engineering department at the college; Mr J. Davidson, head of the engineering department at King Edward Technical College, Dunedin; Mr W. Syme, a consulting engineer; and Mr F. C. Penfold, who is a representative of manufacturers on the Christchurch Technical College Board of Governors.
