PARLIAMENTARY DAY
(From Our Parliamentary Reporter.) WELLINGTON, September 23.
For the first time this session no questions were asked by members of the House of Representatives to-day. No petitions were presented. In the afternoon the House discussed further Estimates under the control of the Prime Minister (Mr Fraser), and votes for the Maori Affairs Department, for Maori land settlement, and for the Maori trustee’s account were passed with little discussion.
The House spent this evening on the second reading of the Gaming Poli Bill. The most notable speech was that of the Leader of the Opposition ’Mr S. G. Holland), who said that he
would vote for the bill because it gave the people the right to decide the issue, but on his own ballot paper he
would vote against the proposal for off-course betting. •The debate was adjourned at 10.30. and the House will as usual spend Friday on the Estimates, taking the votes of the Minister of Finance (Mr Nash).
