4 PROFESSOR PICKERING CHOSEN

(P.A.) DUNEDIN, September 23. Professor G. W. Pickering, head of the department of medicine at St. Mary’s Hospital London, has been appointed Sims Commonwealth Travelling Professor for 1949 This advice has been received in Dunedin by Mr F. Gordon Bell, president of the New Zealand branch of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons Professor Pickering is expected to begin his lecture tour of Australia and New Zealand early next year. The Sims Commonwealth Travelling Professorship has an endowment of £2OOO sterling a year from Mr Arthur Sims and his family, of Christchurch. Its objects are the advancement of medical knowledge within the British Commonwealth and the forging of another link among the peoples of the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, and South Africa.
