New potatoes from Nelson are selling freely in the shops at 6d per lb—ljd be|low ceiling price. Sales of old potatoes have correspondingly dropped. Hothouse cucumßers are selling at the luxury price jof 3s 6d per lb. Supplies of asparagus are now coming forward freely. A shipment of Australian oranges should reach the Christchurch markets about next Wednesday. A few bananas are left in some of the shops, but the bulk of the last shipment of this fruit has gone into consumption.
