FINAL GALLOPS AT WINGATUI
DUVAALS AND ROBINFAYE ’ IMPRESS “The Press” Special Service DUNEDIN, Sept. 23. Conditions were perfect for the final gallops at Wingatui this morning, and the outside of the course proper provided firm and fast going. Several two-year-olds worked attractively, particularly the Riccarton-trained Robinfaye, which, going easily all the way, led Lady Moyra, Hobgoblin, and Bonny Chase at the end of four furlongs in 51 2-ssec. No horse worked more impressively than Robinfaye, and the gallop will probably place her among the favourites for the McLean Stakes.
Another smart gallop was that of the two-year-olds, Western Winner, Gold Strike, and Winning Gem, over three furlongs in 36 3-ssec, with Western Winner shading the other two. Reformed and Greer Galloway went over three furlongs in 38sec. Greer Galloway was slightly lame after the gallop.
Duvaals’ Good Mile The best effort over a mile was that by Fine Night and Duvaals in Imin 47
l-ssec, the first five in Imin 5 l-ssec. Fine Night was ridden right out to shade Duvaals, which was under a good hold, and could have done better. He ha/ never looked better than he does at present.
Orthodox was much too good for Tobasco over five furlongs in Imin 9 2-ssec, without being ridden out. Tobasco, a stable-mate of Red Pickle, makes a noise, and may not be persevered with. Trident and Robin Redbreast led String Band over four furlongs in 54sec.
Grand Coulee, one of the local favourites for the hurdles, showed the way to Knight Crusader and Blanket over seven furlongs in Imin 41sec.
Bonnie Lancer and Revivre were together at the end of a mile in Imin 52sec, the first five furlongs in Imin 10sec.
Sir Abbott and Kildare Lad ran the first three of six furlongs in 40sec, and the full distance in Imin 22sec.
Sequoia and Helio were given strong work, finishing up with three furlongs in 45sec. Bobby Dazzler easily held Robot over six furlongs in Imin 22sec. On the Sand On the sand Jamell, the brother to Fine Night, was sent three furlongs in 37 3-ssec. and Brockie and Stagestruck were paired over four in 51sec. Glad Fox was schooled over four hurdles, and apart from getting in rather close at one of them, gave a good display.
