TRAMWAY RATING
EXCLUSION OF PAPANUI RIDING OPPOSED
Advice that it had decided to oppose an application for the Papanui riding of the Waimairi County to be excluded from the tramway rating area was received from the Christchurch Tramway Board at a , meeting last e X eni S? of Waimairi County Council. The application was in the form of _? petition sent to the council , The board said that alter taking legal opinion, it had decided to oppose the application on the grounds that hitherto all loans raised had been secured by the ratepayers of the tramway district, and at no time had there been any opposition to the loans by residents of the Papanui riding. The board said it considered it inadvisable to reduce its area at presru lt ’fid? a y ing re^ard to the growth ot area, particularly in of th ® Papanui riding or near it, awd it was felt that fairly soon, demends would be made for transport facilities to the growing districts. The council decided to forward the petition to the Minister of Internal Affairs (Mr W. E. Parry).
