ANGLICAN SYNOD
ARRANGEMENTS FOR ANNUAL SESSION
The annual session of the Synod of the diocese of Christchurch will -commence on Monday, October 4. It will be held in the Provincial Council Chamber, where 160 clergymen and synodsmen will meet.
Synod will commence in the. afternoon. After the roll call of members, the president will deliver his address. In the absence of the Archbishop (the Most Rev. Campbell West-Watson) the president of Synod will be the VicarGeneral of the Diocese (the Very Rev. A. K. Warren). The presidential address, however, will include a message received from the Archbishop. The Synod service will be held in the Cathedral in the evening of the opening day of Synod, and the preacher will be the Rev. H. A. Childs (vicar of Geraldine). Clerical and lay confer-* cnees will be held on Tuesday morning, the clergymen meeting at St. Saviour’s schoolroom, Sydenham, and the laymen at Church House. In place of the usual garden parly at Bishopscourt, a diocesan garden party will be held on Wednesday morning in the grounds of Holy Trinity Church, Avonside.
Various committees and organisations of the diocese will submit reports, the more important of which are the reports of the standing committee, the Church Property Trustees, th' Cathedral Chapter, the diocesan pub. l l and social affairs committee, and th various church schools. This yei there are only three bills fox' consid”ration, all of which seek to amend existing administrative, statutes. The e’ections will be held on Thursday after noon, when the representatives of thcdioeese oh General Synod will b’ elected. This election will be followed by those for the standing committee, the Church Property Trustees, and various other boards and committees. It is expected that business will conclude on Thursday evening.
