FIRE BRIGADE FOR KAINGA
GRANT MADE FOR EQUIPMENT A request from the Kainga Settlers’ Association for a grant towards the cost of establishing a volunteer fire brigade was received by the Waimairi County Council last evening. It was stated that the proposed brigade would give protection to the Stewart’s Gully, Kainga, and White’s Bridge districts. It was proposed to buy a standard pump and petrol motor (the cost being about £140). 500 feet of 2Jin hose (about £80), and a trailer (about £35). The supply would come from the wells in the settlement.
Cr. D. Goode said that the district was growing and at present had no fire protection. The nearest brigade would be at Southbrook or Kaiapoi. It was decided to grant the association £6O, provided the council was satisfied with the standard of the eq u i pm ent
