CZECHS SEEK ARREST OF DR. PAPANEK
(Rec. 7 p.m.)- PARIS, September 21. Dr. Jan Papanek, who was Czechoslovakia’s delegate to the United Nations before the Communist coup, said
to-day that he would put the question of the coup before the General Assembly. fie added that he intended to return to America after the Paris meeting to lecture on international affairs.
Dr. Papanek was ordered off his country’s delegation when the Communists took control.
Reuter’s correspondent in Prague reports that the Czech Government has asked France to extradite Dr. Papanek. The Czech news agenev said that Dr. Papanek had been charged with embezzling £31,250.
The correspondent of the Associated Press in Paris quotes the Czech delegation as 'saying that Dr. Papanek transferred £2500 from an official account to his personal account, and appropriated £28,937 which belonged to the Czech Red Cross.
Dr. Papanek, commenting on these charges, said: “I did not think they would stoop so low. The accusations against me are baseless. If the matter is referred to the General Assembly I will be able to prove my case.”
