SOUTH AFRICAN WAR
BELATED HISTORY OF N.Z. FORCES
Mr R J. Serf don. the Prime Minister, directed in 1903 that a history of the services of New Zealand troops in the South African War should be produced. Five separate authors have been engaged since that year, but their accounts were not completed or were considered unsuitable for publication as an official history, but now the hisls .ready for printing. stated in the annual report of the war history branch of the Department of Internal Affairs, which was tabled in the House of Representatives on Tuesday. The South African War Veterans’ Association, which for many years was anxious to have the history published, apnroached the Minister of Internal Affairs (Mr W. E. Parry) again last year, and It was agreed that the branch would undertake the research and writing of a history. Appeal for the work will probably be limited, but it will fill a gap in New Zealand historical records, the report adds.
