SUCCESSES OF V. AND M. TUCK
<P.A.) DUNEDIN, Sept. 22. The Hawke’s Bay Association won the Earl Stewart Memorial Shield for the association gaining most points in the New Zealand boxing championships, with 30 points. Auckland, Greymouth, and Wellington eaeh had 15 points. J. Mclvor, of Hawke’s Bay, who won the welter-weight title, was awarded the John Jameson Belt for the most scientific boxer. Three titles were won by Hawke’s Bay boxers. Wellington, Ashburton, Greymouth, Auckland, and Tarasaki each won one championship. B. Clarke (Auckland)., light-heavy-weight champion, had an easy win in the final. Although R. Wilson (Greymouth) carried on gamely until the third round, Clarke was the aggressor throughout. He gave a polished performance. The referee wisely stopped the bout in the third round, as the Grpymouth man was almost out on his feet. V Tuck (Ashburton) won on a foul from M. T. Khan (Whangarei) in the third round. Khan scored with vicious left rips to the body in the first round, but was warned for hitting low. There were some lively rallies in the third round, with Tuck doing the forcing. When Khan appeared to connect with a rather low punch the referee did not hesitate in raising Tuck’s hand.
