MARKET SOUGHT FOR FROZEN RABBITS

AUSTRALIAN TO VISIT AMERICA (P.A.) AUCKLAND. August 23. Hopes of arranging the importation into America of Australian frozen rabbits were expressed by Mr Norman Smorgan. who arrived at Auckland today from Sydney on the way to Vancouver. He is the managing director of a large Victorian canning company. “At present Britain is taking all the available Australian meat and there will not be any for the American market for* some time,” Mr Smorgan said. "Rabbit meat, of which Britain took more than 1,000,000 cases from , Australia and New Zealand last year, is, however, available for the American market.” Lamb and mutton, previously unpopular in the United States, had appealed to American servicemen in Australia during the war and there was now a definite demand, he said.
