NORTH ISLAND FINAL

WATERSIDERS BEAT ROTOWARO

(P.A.) HAMILTON, August 1. The North Island final of the Chatham Cup, played in Hamilton on Saturday, resulted in a narrow victory for Watersiders (Wellington) against Rotowaro by 1 goal to 0. Heavy rain had made the ground soft and greasy. The game was always exciting, with neither team holding a territorial advantage for long, and both pressing hard. Watersiders’ goal came about 15 minutes before the end of play, when Walker scored with a low, hard shot. Walker had previously suffered leg injuries and after scoring collapsed and was removed to hospital. Rotowaro tried desperately to equalise, but was held at bay by the Watersiders’ backs and the goalie, Healey, who made several brilliant saves. Watersiders (the holders) now play the finalists of the Sbuth Island for the New Zealand final.
