OFFICIAL FORECASTS "The Press" Special Service WELLINGTON, July 22. The weather forecast for Canterbury issued at 9 p.m. by the Meteorological Office, Wellington, and dealing with the 20 hours following the time of issue, is as follows: Situation: a complex and extensive depression is moving slowly eastwards over New Zealand. Forecast: moderate variable winds, southerlies predominating. Weather cloudy and cool with some areas of light rain or drizzle. Further outlook: unsettled. WEST COAST The forecast for the West Coast of the South Island is:— « Moderate variable winds. Weather cloudy with some further showers. Temperatures cool to moderate. CHRISTCHURCH WEATHER The weather in Christchurch yesterday was fine and milder (maximum temperature 48.6 degrees), with a south-westerly breeze. The sky was overcast at midnight and the temperature was 43.3 degrees. There was no wind. The barometer, at 29.55 inches (1000.3 millibars) was rising steadily.
