DEER CULLER
Sir, —Regarding the term "deer culler” frequently used in referring to deer killers or shooters on Government extermination work; may I ask if this is not a case of confusion with another, operation having quite a different objective (now abandoned as far as I know) that of “culling” by shooting out herd runts and malforms. ! I suggest it may make it simpler for : newly-arrived Britishers to learn the New Zealand language if we shoot out some of these etymological “malforms’’ before completing their absorption into the verbal herd.—Yours, etc., , Y. T. SHAND July 20. 1948. !
