TRACTOR IMPORTS
Sir, —I read with much interest the recent articles in “The Press” about the imports of tractors from Great Britain. Might I suggest that the tractors manufactured in Britain are not suitable for the work that is required of them in this country? I agree that there has been a large output from Britain of tractors of suitable horsepower, but the point appears to be, will the farmers buy them if they even have as much as a promise of an American tractor of similar horsepower? I am sure 75 per cent, of the farmers, if not more, would, with me, say no! Let England build us a tractor that will stand up to its American counterpart, and we will buy willingly, and not because there is no other choice. I intend this merely to be constructive criticism on tractors, backed by experience, and not a slur on another country’s products.—Yours, r etc., TRACTOR-DRIVER. July 20, 1948.
