POSITIONS HELD BY MR WEBB
APPEALS BY PUBLIC SERVANTS “The Press” Special Service WELLINGTON, July 21. The hearing of appeals against the appointment to two separate positions in the Government service of Mr L. C. Webb, has been opened before the Public Service Appeal Board. The first appeal is against Mr Webb’s appointment in November. 1946, as Director of Stabilisation. This appeal has been lodged, as an individual, by Mr J. p. Lewin, Assistant Director of Price Control, who is president of the Public Service Association. The second appeal has been made by Mr H. H. Innes against Mr Webb’s appointment as Director of Marketing last March. Since he was appointed Director of Marketing. Mr Webb has continued to act as Director of Stabi- , Mr Innes was Director of Milk Marketing before his appointment as Assistant Director of Marketing. When the appeals were first heard, a few days ago. counsel for Mr Innes claimed that the appeal by Mr Innes should be taken first. It was suggested that if Mr Webb’s first appointment was made under the Stabilisation Regulations and not through the Public Service Commission, then the whole course of the argument on the Second appeal—that of Mr Innes—would be altered. In these circumstances it was argued that Mr Innes’s appeal should be heard first. The whole appeal depends on Mr Webb’s status as Director of Stabilisation. The appeal has been adjourned and no date has yet been fixed for its resumption.
