PROPOSED TRANSFER TO CITY COUNCIL BILL INTRODUCED (From Our Parliamentary Reporter.) WELLINGTON, July 20, The vesting of the ownership of the property and assets of the Canterbury Public Library in thp Corporation of the City of Christchurch is provided for in a bill introduced in the House of Representatives to-day by the Leader of the Opposition (Mr S. G. Holland). All the obligations, engagements. and liabilities of Canterbury University College in respect of the public library pask to the City Council, in which are also vested all the powers of the College Council in the control of the library. The College Council will pay the City Council annually for the purpdses of the public library one-fifth of the net income available from its museum, library, and school of technical science endowment. The trustees of the will of Mr James Gammack are empowered to pay to the City Council all moneys which would have been paid to the Canterbury University College Council. The bill was referred to the Local Bills Committee.
