NEW CUSTOMERS FOR M.E.D.
ASSURANCE TO DEPUTATION An assurance that certain large undertakings, at present drawing, power direct from the State Hydro* electric Department, would in future be transferred to the Municipal Electricity Department was obtained in Wellington by a deputation from the Christchurch City Council. The members were Cr. L. G. Amos (chairman of the electricity committee), Cr. W. P. Glue (a member), Messrs E. Hitchcock (general manager), and J. C. Forsyth (engineer). These undertakings were large producers of revenue and would help to offset effects of the new bulk power contract, Cr. Amos said. He could give no details of negotiations on the contract at this stage. A report ’krould be made to the full electricity comnjittee on Thursday and to the council at its next meeting. Actually the provisions were so complicated that a true picture of likely effects would not be available till departmental officers had made further calculations.
