PUBLIC SERVANT SUSPENDED
AUCKLAND BUILDING CONTROLLER OFFICIAL INQUIRY INTO WORK OF HIS OFFICE (P.A.) AUCKLAND, July 19. “Administrative irregularities” are said to be the reason for an official inquiry into the administration of the Building Controller’s office at Auckland. which has resulted in the suspension of the Building Controller (Mr T. McKnight). Another, officer was dismissed before the inquiry began. The suspension of Mr McKnight was confirmed in Wellington to-day by the chairman of the Public Service Commission (Dr. R. M. Campbell), who emphasised that the official concerned was Mr McKnight, and not Mr K. Rowllings, who now held the position of District Housing Superintendent The personnel of the committee making inquiries is: Messrs C. G. S. Ellis, of Auckland, and J. K. Hunn, of Wellington, two assistant-Public Service Commissioners, and Mr J. More, representative of the Ministry of Works. Mr Ellis confirmed this morning a statement that the inquiry into the affairs of the office was still proceeding. ’Mr K. Mclntyre, formerly on the staff of the District Public Trustee at Auckland, has been placed temporarily in charge of the Building Controller’s office at Auckland, and began his duties to-day. Last February the offices of the Building Controller and head of the district office of the Housing Construction Department, formerly both held by Mr Rowllings, were separated. Mr Rowllings remained in charge of housing construction, and Mr McKnight, formerly Deputy-Building Controller, was appointed Building Controller. SERVICES' OF ANOTHER OFFICER TERMINATED (P.A.) AUCKLAND, July 19. The services of another senior member of the staff of the Building Controller’s office in Auckland were terminated to-day after inquiry into the administration of the office. He was Mr J. H. Kibblewhite, senior fields officer.
