FENDALTON BOYS MOVE

42 NOW AT HEATON STREET

Originally 36 boys of the Fendalton School were directed, to transfer to the Heaton Street School. Yesterday, when the change was made, after protests to the Minister of Education and the Canterbury Education Eoard, and a postponement on the order. 42 boys moved to Heaton street. It is understood that some private appeals have still to come before the Education Board this week.

The Education Board’s senior inspector (Mr H. D. Prichard), who supervised the transter yesterday, said the 19 boys from Standard IV and 23 from Form I at Fendalton were already settling down happily m their new environment. After assembly, most of them moved to Heaton street by bicycle.

The 42 boys had now joined 97 from Elmwood, 64 from Waimairi, and 33 from St. Albans, who were already attending the Heaton Street Scnool, making the total roll now 236, Mr Prichard said. The acting headmaster (Mr Vernon Reid. M.A.), was conducting the school in close consultation with the headmasters of the four contributing schools. The classes now comfortably filled the available larger rooms.

The easing of accommodation difficulties at these four schools, through the transfer of boys to Heaton street, would be extremely helpful in meering the influx of new pupils for the urd term, which was usually heavy in city schools. Mr Prichard said.
