UNDERTAKING MADE BY DEALERS MR BUCKLETON’S CLAIMS CHALLENGED (P.A.) INVERCARGILL, July 17. ’lf Mr Buckleton likes to give my firm an order for 1450 one, three and four-plough wheel tractors, I will supply him this year,” said an Invercargill tractor dealer this morning replying to a statement made by Mr R. G. Buckleton, chairman of the action committee’ of Federated Farmers, about farm machinery needs, in which he disagreed with a previous statement by Invercargill dealers. Mr Buckleton’s statement has been accepted as a challenge by several Invercargill dealers. Another dealer said tbat he would undertake to supply one. two and three-plough wheel tractors if Mr Buckle ton cared to give his firm an order. The dealer said that if raw material for side-rakes which could be procured from sterling sources were made available. Federated Farmers’ orders for side-rakes could be met by New Zealand manufacturers.
Another dealer repeated his statement that crawler type tractors were now being manufactured in Britain. One firm, he said, was manufacturing six-speed Diesel crawler tractors of high horse-power. Regular shipments to New Zealand would begin in August.
