ACCIDENTS
MAN KILLED BY CAR DRIVER FAILS TO REPORT A pedestrian suffered severe head injuries from which he died almost instantly when he was struck by a car at the corner of Riccarton road and Puriri street about 9.30 o’clock last •evening. Tire car did not stop after the accident, but continued down Riccarton road towards the city. The man killed was:— Robert William Hodgson, aged about 75, of 164 Durham street. The driver of the car had not reported to the police early this morning. A police description said that the car was a large sedan. Quantities of glass were found at the scene of the accident. The police will welcome, any information which will assist in establishing the identity of the driver. CAR PASSENGER KILLED COLLISION WITH MILK TRUCK (P.A.) AUCKLAND, July 18. Fatal injuries were received by a passenger in a motor-car which was involved in a collision* with a milk truck on the Great South road. He was Malcolm David Hammond, aged 14, of Otahuhu. The driver of the car, Oswald Lawrence Martin, was seriously injured.
MOTORCYCLIST KILLED (P.A.) WELLINGTON, July 18. A motor-cyclist was fatally injured in the Ngahauranga Gorge road on Saturday night. He was Ashley Leon Cavell, aged 20, a butcher, of Clifford road, Johnsonville. He was riding up hill and ran into the rear of a parked truck. MOTOR CYCLIST INJURED A fractured leg was suffered by Maurice Griffiths, of 16 Opawa road, when he crashed with his motor-cycle at the race held by the Tai Tapu Motor Club at Tai Tapu yesterday. He was admitted to the Christchurch Public Hospital at 4.45 p.m.. and his condition was reported to be satisfactory last evening.
